In what was supposed to be the culmination of months of U.S. backed street demonstrations and protests, Venezuela opposition leader Juan Guaido’s final push to oust President Nicolas Maduro appears to haven fallen far short.

Guaido’s plea for Venezuela’s military to defect and remove Maduro from the Presidential Palace was virtually ignored, leaving the opposition movement in an uncomfortable place.

What’s next? Does the U.S. leave this piece of unfinished business on its To-Do list indefinitely?

In what appears to be another failed regime change operation after the failure to remove Bashar al-Assad in Syria, the Venezuela operation seems to have stalled without any future plans to revive it.

President Nicolas Maduro is still in power and what Juan Guadido’s plans are for the future are largely unknown. How does one lower career aspirations from president of a country to paid speaker on a neocon conference circuit? Perhaps Mr. Guadido will find out soon.
